Did anybody watch Making Slough Happy last night?  A study on what we need to do in life to be happy.  I meant to watch it, but then got distracted, however - to cut a long story short, these are the rules we need to live by apparently...

THE HAPPINESS MANIFESTO

  • Plant something and keep it alive.
  • Count your blessings — think of at least five — at the end of every day.
  • Have an hour-long uninterrupted conversation with your partner each week.
  • Telephone a friend.
  • Give yourself a regular treat.
  • Have a good laugh each day.
  • Take regular exercise.
  • Smile at strangers, or talk to them.
  • Cut your television viewing by half.
  • Perform an act of kindness every day.

I'd agree with most of those. You'd be amazed how many of those we think we do, but actually rarely have time for.
It makes all the difference to deliberately set time aside to do a few of these things.

It's all very well doing all those things, but what if you are to miserable?

    (16.11.05 13:44)
    But tv makes me happy!

    (16.11.05 13:49)
That sounds like a pretty cool plan!

    (16.11.05 13:50)
Too miserable to do them all? I reckon stay home, talk to your plant think of 5 curses on your life then drink yourself to oblivion. And try harder the next day.
Evie, you're right. A world without SATC would be so much more gloomy.

    (16.11.05 13:56)
And perform an act of meanness every day, hehe!

How would cutting back to only one hour's conversation with Mr Splog a week make me happier? Now if it was a list of how to make him happier...

    2. I will
    3. Can I change this one for pet? In that case, which kind of pet would be OK?

    6. Every other day, but I'm working on it.
    7. Meh
    8. I smile til my cheeks hurt.
    9. I don't watch that much tv anyway.
    10. Does fashion advice count as act of kindness?

    (16.11.05 20:30)
Can I make the obvious comment? What if you don't have a partner?

    1. I'm lucky my children survived. I've killed every plant I've ever had.
    2. Counting to 5 is just to much like work.
    3. If I had to talk to him for that long a time uninterrupted, we would end up divorced.
    4. I have no friends.
    5. Will do.
    6. Not.
    7. Yes, from the bedroom, to the bathroom, to the computer, repeat laps as necessary.
    8. I'm insane, not crazy, no strangers for me, they would probably be a serial killer.
    9. And miss all the good shows? Not a chance!!!
    10. Then people will start taking advantage of me.

Lol .... so many funny and silly comments really. I enjoyed reading them all. But really Luda, this seems like a great Manifesto to start with. It probably takes a little effort at first .. until it becomes a lower brain stem function. have you seen the "Cool" music video, though? I love it.
